Center for Argument Technology
Laboratory of the New Ethos
In the Laboratory of The New Ethos, we are studying persuasion strategies of referring to ethos, i.e. people’s character. Since antiquity, these strategies have been recognised as a powerful tool of influencing others in public communication.
New technologies enable us to look at ethos from a perspective which complements the traditional approaches by delivering resources, theories and technologies of ethos.

Computational Rhetoric und Natural Language Processing
The CoRNLP groups works on the computational linguistic modeling of discourse, rhetorical strategies and argumentation in naturally occurring communication.
Depending on the application area and task, we use a variety of methods from Natural Language Processing, from rule-based to stochastic and neural approaches for modeling semantic and pragmatic information in dialogical settings.
